Level 1 Certification

The Level 1 certification is a 16 week entry level knowledge based certificate. The content is delivered 100% online. At the completion of this certificate the student will have an introduction into the field of Wind Energy and an entry level knowledge of Basic Electricity, Hydraulic, and Electro-Mechanical principles needed to start in the field of Wind Energy. This certification would be ideal for anyone who has been working in industry and looking for a change in careers.
The certificate program is designed to allow the student to move more quickly into the workplace. It is focused solely on developing the knowledge needed to help the student obtain the OJT skills once he or she has been hired as an entry level technician.

Computer Applications I

Selected Topics

An introduction to basic computer hardware, software, and operating systems. Students will not only cover computers as individual processors, but will explore computer communities called networks and how they are structured to facilitate the sharing of information and resources.

Principles of Wind Energy

Selected Topics

Introduction to the principles and terminology of the wind industry. The student will also be familiarized with the components and structure of both wind turbines and wind parks.

Electricity Principles

5 Modules

A detailed look at electricity and how it is used. Principles such as Ohm's Law and Power theory will also be covered so that the student will not only be capable of working with electrical power systems, but will also understand the underlying mechanisms and their applications.

Basic Fluid Power

5 Modules

An overview of using fluid based systems, also known as hydraulics, to produce kinetic force in mechanical systems. The student will be fully grounded in the devices and terminology utilized in fluid power and its underlying principles such as Pascal's and Boyle's law.

Wind Electro-Mechanical Systems

4 Modules

A discourse on the components that compose a wind turbine and how they are integrated in order to convert kinetic energy into electrical energy. The student will also be exposed to the fundamentals of monitoring, managing, and controlling these systems.

Second series to start soon!

The second group of students to pass through the TSTC Wind Certificate training is set to start in January 2009. We have seats available so give us a call. The first group of students consisted primarily of industry technicians and representatives and we received a good deal of feedback on our curriculum that will only serve to benefit future groups.

Flexibility is our goal!

TSTC is partnering with local community colleges and Texas Tech University to give students a wide range of options for their education. TSTC will accept courses from other schools and programs and verify that the student is ready for work in wind industry.
Those who wish to continue with a four year degree will find that most, if not all, of their credit will transfer to a Texas Tech degree program in energy management.
